Acid corrosion inhibitors are typically developed for fields involved with acid pickling of steel, chemical cleaning and processing, ore production and oil well acidification. Acid corrosion inhibitors generally works on the adsorption principle and the performance efficiency varies with acid concentration, material composition and temperature. Acid CI adsorbs on a metal surface and form an oil-wet film to protect the iron from exposure to acid.
- These inhibitors possess a high vapor pressure at normal temperature and protect the metal by forming a bond and barrier layer on the metal surface.
- Corrosion inhibitors do not stop corrosion; they greatly reduce the reaction rate of acid with steel. Proper selection and application of corrosion inhibitors also reduce pitting (the tendency of acid to corrode or dissolve metal deeply in specific sites).
Applications
- Effective in hydraulic fracturing and acid well stimulations.
- During acid pickling, industrial cleaning and acid descaling
- Can be used when there is corrosion problem due to use of acids and acidic environment.
- Increases the life of assets.
