Viscosity Modifier

Viscosity modifiers are polymeric molecules that are sensitive to temperature.

At low temperatures, the molecule chain contracts and does not impact the fluid viscosity.

At high temperatures, the chain relaxes and an increase in viscosity occurs.

Applications

  • Control the flow properties of drilling fluid
  • It is stable at temperatures up to 220 deg C
  • Readily dispersible in most brine systems & over a wide pH range.
  • It is environmentally friendly
  • Viscosity develops without high shear and yields faster
  • It can also provide high viscosity in the drilling fluid & hence excellent which removal of cuttings from bore hole.
